Alias Gombe after his arrest in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City.
A 23-year-old man was arrested by the police after locking himself and his 3-year-old son inside a room of their house in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City on Wednesday, July 9.
According to Pasig City Police chief Col. Hendrix Mangaldan, the suspect's mother requested police assistance after her son, identified as alias Gombe, and her grandson did not come out of their house for several hours.
This prompted the officers from Rosario Police Sub-Station 7 to proceed to the suspect's house, where they found Gombe and the boy.
After concerted efforts to convince the suspect to hand over the child failed, the officers, together with SWAT personnel, entered the premises with the consent of the suspect's mother and successfully rescued the boy.
The arresting officers said Gombe exhibited aggressive behavior and assaulted one of the policemen. A procedural search also yielded two sachets of shabu worth P34,000.
Mangaldan said Gombe will face multiple charges of alarms and scandals, direct assault, resistance and disobedience to an agent of a person in authority, and violation of Section 11, Article II of R.A. No. 9165 filed before the Pasig City Prosecutor's Office.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect is separated from his partner and has shown signs of emotional distress in the past wherein whenever they break up, Gombe will be depressed and will lock himself together with his son in his room.
Mangaldan clarified that the incident does not constitute a hostage taking, as Gombe did not make any demands or carry a weapon.
