LAUREL, Batangas – At least 50 Philippine Coast Guard divers have been deployed to scour Taal Lake for the remains of the missing “sabungeros” or cockfight enthusiasts.
Three dive teams were deployed on Friday morning in separate dive points 52 to 72 feet away from the shoreline in Barangay Balakilong here.
The PCG said 13 divers in the first wave reached depths ranging from 16 to 21.8 meters.
All teams temporarily ceased operations as of 9:20 a.m. and endeavors its second dive within the day.
The PCG remains committed to pursuing all leads to help bring closure to the families of the missing sabungeros.
Meanwhile, a sack containing suspected human remains was discovered by divers during the search on Thursday.
The bones were turned over to forensic experts for analysis.
The search was carried out following the claim of whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan that the remains of the missing sabungeros were thrown into Taal Lake. (with PNA)
