Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has revived the “Work for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)” program, creating new employment opportunities for elderly and differently-abled residents of the city.
The program's relaunch was marked by the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the city government and the management of a well-known fast-food chain.
Under the agreement, the senior citizens will be allowed to work in select branches of the restaurant within Manila.
The initiative aims to help senior citizens remain productive members of society while also easing their financial burdens.
It also reflects the city’s continuing efforts to provide meaningful programs for marginalized sectors, including the elderly and PWDs.
"Hangad po ng programang ito na mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang ating mga lolo't lola na makapagtrabaho at maging produktibong muli (The goal of this program is to give our elderly, our grandfathers and grandmothers, a chance to work and become productive once again)," the local chief executive expressed.
City officials expressed hope that more private sector partners will follow suit, expanding the program to accommodate more beneficiaries in the future.
