President Marcos has appointed a new Presidential Communications Office (PCO) secretary, his fifth communications chief three years into his term.
Marcos named Dave Gomez as the new PCO chief, replacing Jay Ruiz.
"We are pleased to announce that President R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Mr. Dave Gomez as secretary of the Presidential Communications Office," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro announced in a briefing on Thursday, July 10.
According to Castro, Gomez has decades of experience in journalism and government and corporate corporations.
He has served as a senior reporter, director-general of the Philippine Information Agency, and communications director at PMFTC Inc.
"Secretary Dave will ensure clear and truthful government messaging for every Filipino," Castro said.
Ruiz, on the other hand, will be appointed as a member of the board of director of Manila Economic Cultural Office in Taiwan.
In a statement, Ruiz thanked the President's "continued trust and confidence in appointing me to a new role in his administration.
"It has been an honor to lead the PCO in advancing transparency, timely information, and responsible public communication," Ruiz said.
"My almost five months as PCO Secretary have been a profound learning experience. I witnessed firsthand the nobility of public service, where every day presents an opportunity to serve the Filipino people and contribute directly to nation-building," he added.
Gomez is the fifth PCO secretary under the Marcos administration, following Ruiz, Cesar Chavez, Cheloy Garafil, and Trixie Cruz Angeles.
Meanwhile, the Palace official also announced that current Department of Energy (DOE) officer-in-charge and Undersecretary Sharon Garin was also appointed as DOE secretary.
"We look forward to their leadership as we strengthen government communications and secure our country's energy needs under bagong Pilipinas," Castro said.
