Kevin Quiambao is expected to miss more training sessions with Gilas Pilipinas as he is set to try out with five other teams in the NBA in hopes of cracking its roster for the Summer League from July 10 to 20 in Las Vegas.
Cone said that the outcome of the tryouts will have a huge say on when will the Gilas winger be able to return home and join the Nationals in the buildup for the FIBA 2025 Asia Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia next month.
“I’ve been in communication with KQ. He’s got a workout with five NBA teams on the 11th. So on the 11th, he’s gonna work out in front of five NBA front offices,” said Cone during the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and Adidas unveiling of the new Gilas Pilipinas jersey at the Monarch Manila on Thursday, July 10.
Quiambao, according to Cone should be back in the country by the 16th at the earliest but could be delayed for a few more days should he manage to make it to the lineup of one of the five teams.
“That will kinda dictate his schedule after that. If he’s able to draw some interest, he might end up in the Summer League for a little longer. If not, he’ll come back earlier,” Cone explained.
The 24-year-old Quiambao flew to Sacramento last week with hopes of impressing the scouts in the training camps and earning a spot in the Summer League.
Though getting interest from the team, Quiambao failed to make the cut in the Kings roster, prompting him to look for the opportunities elsewhere.
