DAVAO CITY – Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte and and acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II are distributing sports equipment and solar-powered lighting systems to barangays here.
The initiative formally began on Thursday, July 10, with Barangay 76-A Bucana and Barangay Maa receiving basketball rings, fiberglass backboards, and solar street lights.
Vice Mayor Duterte personally handed these to barangay officials and no formal program or ceremony was held, unlike previous government-led distributions. The equipment was delivered directly to the barangay officials to expedite community use.
Barangay 76-A Bucana Captain Robert Olan-Olan welcomed the donation and said it as a significant upgrade to the barangay’s existing sports facilities.
“This will be a big boost for our youth. We used to have wooden backboards, but now we have fiberglass ones. Our sports program has leveled up,” Olan-Olan said.
Rep. Duterte said the project will continue weekly, with different barangays receiving equipment and solar lights until all communities in the first district are covered.
The program is part of an ongoing effort by Rep. Duterte and Vice Mayor Duterte to strengthen grassroots sports development and improve public lighting through renewable energy solutions.
