The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has placed under alarm six luxury sports cars after they were caught in a now-viral racing video along a public road in Tagaytay City.
LTO Executive Director Gregorio Pua Jr. said the incident could endanger the lives of road users, and the agency is now in the process of identifying all the drivers involved.
The identification starts with the issuance of show cause orders (SCOs) against the registered owners of the six sports cars which include two Mazda MX-5 with plate numbers NAG 9979 and NDN 8375, a Ford Mustang V8 with plate number NDF 7463, a Nissan Z with plate number FAR 4635, a Chevrolet Camaro with plate number NBQ 3900, and a BMW M4 with plate number NFG 9888.
“The SCOs were already issued to them and part of this process is for them to identify and bring with them the drivers of these sports cars. Maaring ‘yung registered owner ang mga ‘yun, o ibang mga driver. Wala silang kawala dito dahil may video (They could be the registered owners or other drivers. They won’t get away with this because there’s video evidence),” Pua said.
In the SCO signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Chief Renante Melitante, the registered owners are asked to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The LTO has already suspended the driver’s license of the individuals involved in the incident.
Pua, for his part, said the registered owners were asked to bring with them the registration papers and other documents relating to the sports cars for review and verification.
“Let this serve as a warning that we will not tolerate this behavior on the road—naka-sports car ka man o motor o tricycle (whether you're driving a sports car, a motorcycle, or a tricycle). Umayos tayo sa daan, yun ang gawin natin araw-araw para wala kayong problema sa LTO (Follow the rules, drive properly every day, and you won’t have any problems with the LTO),” he added.
