Three suspects in the killing of a Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver who was reported missing last May 18, were formally presented to the media at the Manila City Hall on Wednesday, July 10, by Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso.
The victim was last seen in Parañaque City after picking up three passengers through a ride-hailing app.
Authorities later confirmed the driver’s death after recovering dash cam footage from his vehicle, which was found abandoned in Valenzuela City.
According to investigators, the suspects, all residents of Tondo, Manila, voluntarily surrendered to the Northern Police District and were later turned over to the Manila Police District.
During their presentation, the suspects refused to answer most questions from the media, saying they would speak only to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) as the probe is ongoing.
However, when briefly asked why they allegedly killed the driver, one of them responded, "Nadisgrasya lang po (It was just an accident)."
The suspects also asked for forgiveness from the victim’s family, though they gave no further explanation about the events that led to the killing.
Police are still investigating the motive, with initial findings pointing to a possible robbery.
Authorities are reviewing the dash cam footage and other forensic evidence as part of their case build-up.
The incident has once again raised alarm over the safety of ride-hailing drivers, with several groups urging platforms and authorities to implement stricter safety protocols, including enhanced passenger verification and emergency response systems.
The Manila Police District and the NBI are working closely to complete the investigation and file appropriate charges.
