Speaking to supporters and media in The Hague, on Tuesday, July 8, the Vice President stressed that she is waiting for the impeachment trial to answer the allegations that she has hidden wealth.
“Sa bank accounts, inaantay ko na magkaroon ng trial wherein doon ko sasagutin yung mga question about sa bank accounts. Dahil sa ngayon naman, iyon nga, iligal yung pagkuha nila ng information with regard to bank accounts and wala akong obligasyon na sumagot sa kanila (With regards to bank accounts, I am waiting for a trial wherein I will answer the question about the bank accounts because for now, I have no obligation to answer those who are illegally accessing information with regard to bank accounts),” she explained.
“Pero kung hindi matuloy yung impeachment, I will endeavor na umupo para sagutin yung mga allegations nila sa impeachment through the public (But if the impeachment will not push through, I will endeavor to sit down to answer the allegations in the impeachment through the public),” she added.
Duterte clarified also that she will not pursue legal actions against those who tried to get information about her bank accounts.
“Hindi na. Wala man ako fina-filan ng kaso. Lahat ng mga libelous na lumabas, wala akong finilan ng kaso... Pinapasadiyos ko na yan kasi tingin ko naman, mas matindi ang galit ng Diyos kapag dumating na (No. I didn’t file a case. All those libelous that came out, I didn't file a case. I leave it to God because I think God’s wrath is worse),” she said.
Pro-impeachment groups have been pushing for the impeachment trial to begin in the Senate, with hopes of Duterte’s bank accounts being subpoenaed.
It was former senator Antonio Trillanes IV who alleged that some P2.4 billion deposited into joint accounts held by the former president and the Vice President between 2011 and 2015.
