DAVAO CITY – Davao City Rep. Omar Vincent Duterte officially launched on Wednesday, July 9, the active operations of his congressional office through a landmark consultative meeting with barangay heads from the second district.
Rep. Omar said the meeting was the first in a planned series of monthly consultations to establish closer coordination between his office and grassroots leaders.
He said the initiative aims to gather first-hand accounts of the challenges and priorities faced by each barangay, ensuring that government services are responsive and community-driven.
“This begins regular consultations that will bridge our office directly to the people. We want to hear their concerns, understand their needs, and work together toward real solutions,” Rep. Omar said.
Barangay leaders voiced their communities’ pressing issues and shared proposals for local development.
Coastal and fishing communities were given special attention, with representatives from the Puwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat (PPP) party-list present to engage in dialogue and express support for sustainable fisheries programs.
Barangay Tibungco Chairman Merjade Calvo welcomed the initiative, calling it a meaningful step towards inclusive governance.
“We are deeply thankful for this opportunity. Through these consultative meetings, our constituents’ concerns are brought to light, and they feel the strong presence of Congressman Omar’s office is addressing real problems,” Calvo said.
Rep. Omar emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to accessible and accountable leadership. He said he meant to deliver services to his district.
“We’re not here only during the campaign season. We want every barangay to know that they are heard and that their welfare is at the heart of our service,” the congressman said.
The monthly meetings are expected to cover various issues affecting urban and rural communities, from infrastructure and healthcare to education and livelihood.
Local stakeholders and residents hope this consultative approach will lead to more responsive public services and a deeper connection between leaders and constituents in the second district.
