ILOILO CITY — Power distributors under the Razon Group are expanding the use of renewable energy sources in the Visayas starting in Iloilo.
Parent firm Primelectric Holdings Inc. (PHI) inked agreements with industrial partners to fulfill its portfolio for renewable energy sources as stipulated by the Department of Energy (DOE).
“We are steadily increasing the share of renewables in our power mix. With this new project, we take another significant step in hitting our long-term clean energy targets, ensuring our customers benefit from affordable, reliable, and greener power,” said Primeletric President Roel Castro.
The first was a 6.6-megawatt solar energy project in Iloilo. The deal was signed between MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) and Urban Energy Development Corp. (UEDC), a subsidiary of Mabuhay Power Holdings Corp.
The deal with UEDC was sealed as it will soon operate its 8-MW solar-powered plant in Anilao town, Iloilo province.
“We are proud to support MORE Power’s renewable energy goals with our first solar facility in Iloilo,” said UEDC President Alfonso Reyes in a statement.
Primelectric also inked an agreement with ACWA Power Co. of Saudi Arabia to explore renewable energy sources for distribution firms in franchise areas of MORE Power in Iloilo, Negros Power in Central Negros, and Bohol Light in Bohol.
“We are not only fast-tracking the rollout of clean energy projects in this part of the Philippines, but also driving technology transfer, and contributing to long-term economic growth and community development,” said Thomas Brostrom, chief investment and development officer of ACWA Power.
The deal will also explore renewable energy sources in Palawan.
