Mandaluyong City lone district Rep. Alexandria “Queenie” Gonzales thanked on Wednesday, July 9 Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez and his wife, former Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Romualdez for helping organize relief operations for fire victims in Barangay Addition Hills.
Almost 600 families were displaced by the fire that took place last July 5.
"Maraming, maraming salamat muli, Speaker Martin Romualdez at Tingog Party List at hindi po ninyo nakakalimutan na tulungan ang mga taga-Mandaluyong, lalo na sa panahong ito! Napaka-laking bagay nito para unti-unting makabangon ang aming mga kababayan!" Gonzales wrote.
(Many, many thanks once again to Speaker Martin Romualdez and the Tingog Party List for never forgetting to help the people of Mandaluyong, especially during these times. This means so much as it helps our fellow citizens gradually get back on their feet!)
Rep. Romualdez, in a statement Wednesday, said the relief operations were carried out with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the office of Rep. Gonzales, a returning member to the 20th Congress.
“Ang ganitong mga trahedya ay pagsubok sa ating katatagan, pero panahon din ito ng pagkakaisa. Ang ating tanggapan, kasama ang Tingog at mga kasamahan sa Kongreso, ay handang tumugon saan man at kailanman,” said Rep. Romualdez, the Speaker of the previous 19th Congress.
(Tragedies like these test our resilience, but they are also moments for unity. Our office, together with Tingog and our colleagues in Congress, stands ready to respond, wherever and whenever we are needed.)
The relief operations began on July 6 with the distribution of hot meals to around 1,000 individuals.
The distribution of almost 600 relief packs, each containing rice, canned goods, noodles, and coffee, took place Wednesday at the parking area of the Mandaluyong College of Science and Technology.
Tingog Party-list, currently representated in the 20th Congress by nominees Andrew Julian Romualdez and Jude Acidre, said the effort was part of their ongoing commitment to bring the Marcos administration's programs closer to communities in crisis.
“Public service means being present on the ground, especially when our kababayans are most vulnerable. We will continue to work with our partners to ensure that no one is left behind,” the Tingog Party-list said.
