BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Greg Gasataya said that he will maintain the cash reward program initiated by former Mayor now lone district Rep. Albee Benitez aimed at resolving unsolved killings.
Gasataya confirmed that the incentive scheme will continue as part of efforts to support local law enforcement in their fight against illegal drugs and other crimes.
“The incentives will be continued if that’s one thing that could help the campaign,” he said, adding that the city has already set aside a budget for the initiative.
Under the program launched last year, informants can receive cash rewards ranging from P20,000 to a maximum of P50,000 for credible information that leads to the resolution of unsolved killings here.
As of November 2024, the Bacolod City Police Office has solved two cases through the help of informants.
Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod City police director, supports the reward system, noting that it encourages reluctant witnesses to come forward.
Gasataya pledged continued city government support for BCPO initiatives, particularly in addressing illegal activities.
“I commend them for their campaign against illegal drugs,” the mayor said, following the city police force’s recent huge accomplishment.
He said that the BCPO should be consistent with the operations, in partnership with other agencies to sustain their ground.
