'Walang exempted': Pateros employees undergo mandatory drug testing

Employees of the Pateros municipal government have started undergoing mandatory drug testing.
The drug testing was ordered by Pateros Mayor Gerald German, who also submitted his urine sample for analysis on July 7.
“Ngayong araw, sa direktiba ni Mayor Gerald German, magsasagawa ng mandatory drug testing para sa lahat ng empleyado ng Pamahalaang Bayan ng Pateros – walang exempted (Today, upon the directive of Mayor Gerald German, mandatory drug testing will be conducted for all employees of the Pateros Municipal Government – ​​no one is exempted),” the municipal government announced on its official Facebook page on July 7.

It said the testing is part of its campaign against illegal drugs.
“Bahagi ito ng ating seryosong kampanya laban sa ilegal na droga at pagsisiguro na bawat kawani ay tapat, malinis, at karapat-dapat maglingkod sa mamamayan ng Pateros (This is part of our serious campaign against illegal drugs and ensuring that every employee is honest, clean, and worthy of serving the people of Pateros),” the municipal government added.
In a decision announced in May, the Supreme Court said government employees who fail drug tests must be given a chance to undergo rehabilitation.
The case involved a Muntinlupa City government employee who tested positive twice for illegal drugs.
The Supreme Court Public Information Office stated that based on the decision, dismissal is only justified if the employee refuses to cooperate with or fails to complete the drug rehabilitation program.
“[I]t does not merit their dismissal from office unless they do not cooperate with, or fail, the intervention program to which they are referred,” the Supreme Court ruled.
