Terra Solar reports MTERRA project 54% complete
Terra Solar Philippines, an affiliate of Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGen), reported substantial progress on its solar project, with 778 megawatts (MW) of solar panels now installed.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Tuesday, July 8, the company said that its MTERRA Solar project, poised to become the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) installation in the country, is now 54 percent complete as of June 2025, eight months since the project's groundbreaking ceremony.
Phase 1 of the MTERRA Solar project is targeted for completion by early 2026, with the second phase set to begin the following year.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate 3,500 MW-peak (MWp) of solar capacity, complemented by 4,500 MW-hours (MWh) of battery energy storage. This clean energy output will power an estimated 2.4 million residents.
MGen expects the project will reduce 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually, an environmental benefit comparable to removing three million gasoline-powered vehicles from the road.
The company also stated its aim to exceed its 1,500 MW attributable renewable energy capacity goal by 2027, three years ahead of its original 2030 timeline.
The MTERRA Solar project spans 3,500 hectares—roughly the size of Pasig City—across Gapan, Peñaranda, General Tinio, and San Leonardo in Nueva Ecija, and San Miguel in Bulacan.
MGen earlier said that the project's engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors include Energy China, POWERCHINA, and Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation (MIESCOR). Huawei is currently supplying the battery energy storage system.
Maxipro Development Corp. and Fujian Electric Power and Engineering Co. Ltd were also awarded EPC contracts to ensure seamless power integration into the grid. Additionally, The Asia Pacific Rim International Construction and Trading Corporation is serving as the Medium Voltage Switchgear contractor for the first phase.
“With 778 MW of solar PV capacity now installed, we are making real progress toward delivering cleaner and more sustainable power for Filipinos,” Dennis B. Jordan, MTERRA Solar and MGen, president and chief executive officer, said.
“This milestone reflects the hard work of our teams on the ground, the support of our government partners, and the trust of the communities we serve,” he added.
