PAL revives nonstop service to Sapporo after 5-year hiatus
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) is reviving its seasonal nonstop flights between Manila and Sapporo following a five-year hiatus, as the airline looks to capture the strong demand for winter travel to northern Japan.
The Lucio Tan-led airline announced that it will operate nonstop flights between Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Sapporo's New Chitose Airport beginning Nov. 24 and until March 27, 2026.
PAL will offer the seasonal flights thrice a week—every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday—via an Airbus A321neo aircraft.
With 168 seats to choose from, the flight will have 12 seats in business class and 156 seats in economy class. These seats will have access to inflight entertainment options and Wi-Fi connectivity.
PAL President Richard Nuttall said returning to Sapporo signals the flag carrier’s intention to strengthen bilateral relations and cultural ties with Japan.
“This route not only provides a convenient travel option for Filipino tourists and overseas workers, but also opens doors for Japanese travelers to explore and experience the Philippines' vibrant culture and warm hospitality,” he said in a statement.
With its upcoming launch this year, the Sapporo route is set to operate every succeeding winter season from November to March.
Known for its world-famous snow festival and skiing resorts, Sapporo is a popular tourist destination during the winter season.
Currently, PAL offers the largest network of destination points and routes, with nonstop services already available to Osaka Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Tokyo (both Haneda and Narita airports).
From its Cebu hub, the airline also serves direct flights to both Osaka Kansai and Tokyo Narita.
PAL previously operated the Manila-Sapporo route beginning December 2018, which was later suspended in March 2020 or during the start of travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
