According to the Manila Police District (MPD), the incident was reported to them on Tuesday, July 8, but it said that the items were found on Monday, July 8.
The bombs included two aerial bombs and one hand grenade.
The discovery prompted an immediate response from the MPD Explosive Ordnance Disposal and K9 Unit, which safely secured and retrieved the explosives from the site.
The bombs were found during the ongoing construction project within the medical campus.
Authorities believed the explosives may have been remnants from World War II when Manila saw heavy bombardment during the liberation of the city in 1945.
As a precaution, portions of the construction site were temporarily cordoned off while police conducted a sweep of the area to check for any additional unexploded ordnance.
PGH, which was established in 1907, served as a major hospital during the war and sustained damage during the liberation of Manila.
Authorities reminded the public to immediately report any suspicious metallic objects, especially in construction zones, to prevent accidents.
