In an advisory posted on the consulate’s Facebook page, it assured the Filipino community that it is closely monitoring the situation in flood-hit Texas.
“The Philippine Consulate General in Houston wishes to inform the public that it is closely monitoring the recent flooding in Kerrville and surrounding communities and counties,” it said.
“To date, there are no known Filipino casualties,” the consulate stressed.
It advised the public “to monitor local weather reports, emergency advisories, and immediately contact local authorities for emergency assistance.”
The consulate also assured that it “stands ready to extend necessary and appropriate support” to Filipino nationals who may be affected by the flooding.
The historic flash floods triggered by the unrelenting rain last Thursday to Friday swept across central Texas, including an all-girls Christian camp at the edge of the Guadalupe River.
Authorities said they have already recovered the bodies of 40 adults and 28 children, while some 10 children and a counselor from the camp remain missing.
At least 41 people have been reported missing across the state and areas affected by the flooding, but authorities fear the number could be higher as people camped out near the river for the Independence Day celebration.
