The Philippine government transported 25 more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Israel back into the country in the continuing repatriation program as several Filipinos chose to leave despite the improved security situation in the Middle East.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the new batch of OFWs from Israel arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City, on July 6.
“We continue to implement a whole-of-government to assist our OFWs, from extending assistance for their basic needs up to the voluntary repatriation,” said Cacdac who was among those who personally welcomed the OFWs.
Upon arrival, the repatriates were given health check-ups by the Department of Health and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) medical team.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator PY Caunan said they provided immediate financial aid under their flagship programs: AKSYON Fund and Emergency Repatriation Fund, aside from the separate cash aid from DSWD.
“They were also given TESDA training vouchers for their upskilling while staying in the country and medical check-up and referral assistance from the DOH, Caunan.
The 25 OFWs compose the 39th batch of repatriates from Israel under the government’s voluntary repatriation program by the Marcos administration.
A total of 72 OFWs have undergone voluntary repatriation since the Iran-Israel conflict erupted.
Since October 2023, a total of 1,405 Filipino migrant workers have been able to go home via the repatriation program under the guidance of President Marcos Jr.
