The Fraternal Order of Utopia successfully staged the first Utopia Excellence Cup on July 4 at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
More than just a round of golf, the tournament celebrated excellence and created valuable connections between the players, sponsors, and brothers of the fraternity.
The Utopia Excellence Cup brought together an impressive roster of participants, from the country’s most brilliant legal professionals, esteemed alumni of the Ateneo, and beloved friends and partners of the Fraternity. The fairways were filled with camaraderie and competition, as the participants not only displayed their love for the sport, but also grasped at the opportunity to network and revisit old ties.
The presence of Supreme Court Justice Rodil Zalameda, Supreme Court Justice Andy Reyes, SEC Chairman Francis Lim, SEC Commissioner Bryant Fernandez, Chief State Counsel Dennis Chan and ABLJ Top 100 Lawyers Greg Tiongco and John Siao, alongside esteemed figures such as Cong. Jan Rurik Padiernos and Cagayan Gov. Edgar “Egay” Aglipay, gave emphasis on the tournament’s significance and ultimately adding to the prestige and energetic atmosphere.
Beyond the excitement of the competition, the Utopia Excellence Cup successfully fulfilled its primary objective: to raise awareness and garner support for the Fraternity’s initiatives. These include public service programs and scholarship opportunities for deserving law students, all aimed at reinforcing its commitment to nation-building and civic engagement through the legal profession. Thanks to the generosity of the sponsors, the event ensured that no guest left without a smile—thanks to an abundance of raffle prizes, including luxurious vacation packages at prestigious resorts.
Antonio Sabre came out as the overall champion by accumulating the lowest net throughout the tournament. Gino Puno topped Class, followed by Butch Yabut and Rurik Padiernos.
For the Senior’s category, Supreme Court Justice Rodil Zalameda emerged victorious as the champion. Roma Valdez and Tito Pintor finished as first and second runners-up, respectively.
Adwin German ruled Class B Champion, while Armand Mendoza claimed the Class C title.
Sophia Caedo, meanwhile, was crowned the Ladies champion.
