DAVAO CITY – Over 5,500 runners paid tribute and appealed for the release of former President Rodrigo Duterte at the 1st Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Run here at dawn on Sunday, July 6, with the theme “Bring Tatay Digong Back Home.”

Runners from all ages and walks of life participated in the 1K to 21K categories of the event organized by the On Any Sunday Rider Club and Orango Tribe.
Acting Vice Mayor Councilor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, on behalf of acting Mayor Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and the Duterte family, thanked people for joining the fun run and supporting the former President, currently detained at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, for alleged crimes against humanity during his tenure as president.
“My uncle, acting Mayor Baste, extends our deepest gratitude to all of you who joined and supported the 1st Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Run. On behalf of our family and my grandfather, former President Duterte, thank you so much for your continued love and trust,” Rigo said.
FINISHERS received a medal with former President Duterte's image.
Rigo said the event symbolizes unity and the people’s love for Davao City.
He said that the number of participants showed that former President Duterte’s legacy is still alive.
Rigo urged the people to continue appealing to bring him home.
