LTO suspends license of 10 taxi, TNVS drivers for contracting, overcharging passengers at NAIA

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended the license of 10 taxi and transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers for contracting and overcharging passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza said the 10 drivers were apprehended during the random inspection conducted by the agency’s enforcement teams on June 25 following at least three cases of viral videos involving overcharging passengers for short trips at the NAIA.
“We already informed these drivers of the suspension of their licenses for 90 days through the SCOs that we issued them. In other words, they have no jobs all because they take advantage of our kababayan,” said Mendoza.
“Our operations in all NAIA terminals will continue because we want our country’s main gateway to be a discipline zone,” he added.
Earlier, Mendoza ordered the regular deployment of LTO enforcer team at the three NAIA terminals following at least three cases of viral overcharging cases—one driver charged a passenger with P1,300 for a short trip from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 while another one charged a passenger with over P5,000 in a separate trip from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle taxi rider is currently being investigated for charging a passenger P2,000 from NAIA to Cainta, Rizal.
“We will not allow these people to continue doing their illegal activities especially right at the country’s main gateway. If they can do this to our kababayan, I’m sure they do not hesitate to do it to foreign tourists,” said Mendoza.
“This kind of behavior embarrasses the country in the eyes of our foreign tourists. We will make sure that our operation will be sustained to run after these drivers,” he added.
All the drivers apprehended are facing a case of being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle which has a maximum penalty of revocation of driver’s license.
