The Filipinas held their ground in the first two quarters before seemingly running out of steam in the third when the Japanese ripped the game wide open.
Gilas was actually down by two at intermission, 40-42, before Japan outscored the Filipina dribblers, 22-12, in the third frame to erect a double-digit spread heading into the final canto.
It was a balanced attack for Japan which had five players scoring in double figures led by Mona Tateyama who fired 12 points while Azuha Asahina, Suzuno Higuchi, Ufuoma Tanaka and Haru Uwaki all scored 11 each.
Jack Animam posted a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds while young guns Louna Ozar and Naomi Panganiban added 14 and 11, respectively. Sumayah Sugapong added 11 as Gilas fell to a 1-3 record in the standings.
