A FREE surgical mission was conducted by the World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP) and power distributor MORE Power for children from low-income families in Iloilo.
ILOILO CITY – A recent surgical mission benefited 22 children from low-income families in the city and province of Iloilo.
The World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP) partnered with power distributor MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) to bridge the gap of children from low-income families needing surgeries.
A team of 41 volunteer pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, pathologists, and operating room nurses came together and provided free surgical care that would typically cost anywhere from P150,000 to P200,000.
The WSFP said its fifth surgical mission in Iloilo is a contribution to ease the impact of the shortage of pediatric surgeons.
“There’s only one active pediatric surgeon left in Iloilo and even that doctor is nearing retirement. With the doctor catering to patients from other provinces, too many children are left waiting for surgery,” said WSFP President Dr. Lester Suntay.
MORE Power reaffirmed its commitment to provide service to the people of Iloilo aside from power distribution.
“We hope to see this program continue annually. MORE Power will always be a partner in improving the lives of Ilonggos,” said Chief Executive Officer and President Roel Z. Castro in a statement.
The surgical missions were backed by the Iloilo City government and the Iloilo provincial government.
