Under construction warehouse in Bulacan collapses; 2 died, 5 injured
Two individuals were killed while five others were injured after an under-construction warehouse collapsed at the boundary of Bustos and Pandi, Bulacan, on Friday, July 4.
The warehouse was reportedly intended for toy storage.
According to the Pandi Municipal Police Station (PMPS), the fatalities were identified as “Allan,” whose body was recovered during the retrieval operation, and “Norman,” 23, a resident of Taytay, Rizal.
Police said they received a call from a concerned citizen about the incident at around 3:45 p.m.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), and the Pandi and Bustos police immediately responded to the area.
Initial investigation revealed that the concrete slab on the second floor began to sink under the weight of freshly poured cement.
One of the workers attempted to reinforce the area by welding support bars, but the scaffolding gave way, leading to the collapse.
As of this writing, retrieval operations are still ongoing for a worker believed to be trapped under the rubble.
The five injured workers were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
