An e-bike driver and his student accomplice were arrested by members of the Pasay City Police Maricaban Substation after stealing a Grab driver's cellular phone.
Pasay City Police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the suspects as Pangit, 25, an e-bike driver and a member the “Sputnik gang,” and the 16-year-old male student. They were arrested on Andrews Avenue in Barangay 184, Maricaban, Pasay City, at around 1:40 a.m. on July 4.
De Sesto said the victim, Marlon,48, a Grab driver and resident of Los Banos, Laguna, reported that his Samsung Galaxy phone, placed in his car mobile holder, was stolen by unidentified suspects.
The victim claimed he had parked his car beside the Philippine Airlines area after feeling dizzy and decided to take a nap, leaving the window partially open for ventilation.
De Sesto said CCTV footage showed the suspects approaching the victim's vehicle and stealing the phone. The footage was obtained through coordination with nearby barangays.
The suspects were arrested during a follow-up operation, and the stolen phone was recovered from their possession.
Pangit is now detained at the Pasay Police custodial facility, while the student -- classified as a child in conflict with the law (CICL) -- was turned over to the Pasay Youth Center in accordance with child protection laws.
