The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the license of a Porsche driver who was seen using a mobile phone while behind the wheel on a highway, a clear violation of traffic and road safety laws.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the motorist appeared to be recording content for social media while driving, based on a video that has since circulated widely online.
The LTO issued a show cause order (SCO) to both the driver and the registered owner of the vehicle, directing them to submit a written explanation as to why they should not be held administratively liable.
The agency is pursuing possible violations including reckless driving, breach of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (Section 4 of Republic Act No. 10913), and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle under Section 27(a) of Republic Act No. 4136, which may result in license revocation.
As part of its enforcement action, the LTO also placed the Porsche under alarm status to prevent any transaction involving the vehicle while the case is pending.
“Anuman ang klase ng sasakyan na minamaneho ay dapat matuto pa rin tayong sumunod sa mga batas trapiko (Regardless of the type of vehicle one is driving, we must still learn to follow traffic laws). If the driver is indeed a content creator, then there is a responsibility to set a good example to his followers,” Mendoza said.
