Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao admitted that there was a conscious effort on his part to tone himself down during the emotional semifinals series against TNT, especially after his counterpart Chot Reyes got suspended due to the excessive technical fouls.
“Parang gusto akong i-dislodge doon sa title ko, inunahan pa ako ni coach Chot eh. Pero malapit lapit na rin ako eh,” said the fiery mentor after the Elasto Painters pounced on Reyes absence to hack out a 113-97 victory in Game 5.
According to the PBA rulebook, a fifth technical foul in one conference would lead to an automatic suspension to the player or the coach. A verbal warning will be given to the player or coach on the third technical while a written letter from the PBA would be given on the fourth.
Should the technical fouls persist, the coach or player will be suspended once again on the eighth technical foul.
Reyes had his fifth technical foul during Game 4.
In an unofficial count, Guiao already has three technical fouls – all of which came during the semis series against TNT.
He even got tossed out in Game 1 after two technical fouls both on continuous complaining but on separate occasions. He was then assessed with his third for use of profane language when he confronted Glenn Khobuntin for a hard foul on Gian Mamuyac in Game 3.
“Umiiwas ako eh, pero tignan natin, sana makaiwas naman ako,” said Guiao with a wide smile.
