DSWD deploys 3 million food packs amid 'Bising', 'habagat'
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday, July 4, said it is prepared to support families affected by tropical depression “Bising” and the southwest monsoon (habagat) with over three million family food packs already placed nationwide.
DSWD-Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB) Director Maria Isabel Lanada said the food packs were prepositioned in 935 storage facilities even before the LPA intensified into a tropical depression.
Lanada also reported that the DSWD’s field offices have nearly 337,500 non-food items available, including family and kitchen kits, blankets, and modular tents, to assist those displaced by weather disturbances.
Additional disaster response equipment is on standby for deployment as needed, including mobile command centers stationed in field offices nationwide to facilitate communication among response teams.
To assist stranded passengers, the DSWD has coordinated with the Philippine Ports Authority to preposition ready-to-eat food boxes in various seaports across the country.
