ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 38-year-old woman allegedly strangled her five-year-old daughter to death then killed herself inside their residence here on Wednesday, July 2.
Initial investigation said neighbors reported hearing cries of help from the victims’ house.
These were left unheeded until a brother of the woman discovered the bodies of his sister and niece.
The woman’s body was found hanging from the beam of the ceiling with her daughter nearby.
Initial investigation said that the woman choked her daughter before hanging herself.
Further investigation said that the woman was allegedly suffering from depression and kidney disease.
Mental health advocates urged people here struggling with such issues to seek professional help.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old housewife was shot and wounded inside her residence here on Wednesday.
The victim, Jovelyn P. Armada, was tending to her child when a man onboard a motorcycle arrived and shot her.
The suspect fled and Armada was taken to a hospital.
Police have launched a manhunt against the suspect.
