SC cited as one of top payors of GSIS social insurance premiums
With over P95 million in premiums remitted to the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) as of December 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) has been recognized as one of the top government agencies in the large category to pay its social insurance premiums.
The GSIS awarded the SC a Certificate of Recognition of Highest Paid Premiums for Billing of Unpaid Premiums of over P95 million in premiums from October 2007 to December 2024.
SC Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief of the Fiscal Management and Budget Office lawyer Marilyn I. De Joya received the award on behalf of the SC during the recent GSIS Stakeholders’ dialogue held in Manila.
The SC was cited for consistently meeting its GSIS obligations that help protect employee benefits, ensure retirement security, and build public trust.
SC Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Administrative Officer lawyer Maria Carina Matammu-Cunanan highlighted that supporting the operational and personnel needs of offices within the Judiciary remains a priority for Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo.
Under Presidential Decree No. 1146, the Revised Government Service Insurance Act of 1977 as amended, all government employees who are not yet at retirement age must be GSIS members, except for members of the Armed Forces, the Philippine National Police, and contractual workers without an employer-employee relationship with their agencies.
GSIS contributions include both the employee’s personal share and the government agency’s contribution.
Members and personnel of the judiciary contribute three percent of their monthly salary, and their employer (the judiciary through the SC) matches this with another three percent for life insurance coverage.
