Limping and all, especially with the injuries to their key players, the Tropang 5G hope to keep finding ways to pull off another victory in their crucial contest that tips off at 5 p.m.
Following suit is the clash between San Miguel and Barangay Ginebra with both sides looking to get the advantage in the virtual best-of-3 race that begins at 7:30 p.m.
More than the goal of making it back to the Finals and getting a clear shot at its Grand Slam bid, the biggest concern for TNT head coach Chot Reyes is how to get his wards – whoever is available for Game 5 – ready for the crucial contest.
The injury bug continued to hover around the Tropang 5G with both starters Kelly Williams and Calvin Oftana going down with respective ankle injuries in the TNT’s 108-94 Game 4 win.
The health issues of both key players adds to the growing list of players in sickbay for TNT which is already without Jayson Castro, Rey Nambatac and RR Pogoy. Even Jordan Heading was nursing a back injury and Brian Heruela, though he played well in Game 4, is only coming off his own ankle issues.
“I'm only concerned if we have enough men,” said Reyes, obviously concerned about how his lineup would like entering Game 5. “We were just falling like flies. We lost Kelly today, Calvin as well. But just as it's been since Day 1 not only this conference but the entire season, whoever we have, next man up.”
“For me, going into the next game, my only concern is who do we have and how I can make best use out of whoever it is that we have left,” he added as he hopes to lean more on guys like Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, JP Erram, Kim Aurin and Glenn Khobuntin.
Of course, Rain or Shine, after falling to another 1-3 deficit in the series, is surely eager to extend the affair and stave off elimination.
While all eyes are on TNT in its series against ROS, it’s been a nip-and-tuck affair for SMB and Ginebra in their own best-of-four race.
Both squads have been trading victories although the pressure to make the adjustments is now on the side of the Kings after the Beermen scored series-tying 107-82 win.
