Korean police cleared K-pop idol Ju Haknyeon of allegations that he engaged in prostitution in Japan by paying a former adult video (AV) actress for sex.
Ju Haknyeon was expelled from K-pop boy band The Boyz because of the allegations and his agency terminated his exclusive contract.
He vehemently denied sleeping with the former AV actress, who is now an influencer, back in May when he went to Japan.
After his expulsion, a Korean netizen filed a complaint against him on June 19 for prostitution in violation of the Korean law Act on the Punishment of Arrangement of Commercial Sex Acts.
The complaint was assigned to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul.
In clearing Ju Haknyeon, the Korean police determined that there was insufficient specific reason or circumstances to initiate an investigation based on Internet articles related to the accusations.

A Korean media outlet previously reported that Ju Haknyeon met former AV actress Asuka Kirara in a private bar in Tokyo.
On June 18, his agency, One Hundred, said, “We immediately took the measure of suspending activities after receiving information that Ju Haknyeon was recently involved in a private life issue, and took the time to thoroughly check the facts.”
It added, “As a result, we took the seriousness of the matter into consideration, and we clearly recognized that it is difficult to continue trust as an artist. Accordingly, after sufficient discussion with the members of The Boyz, we have finalized Ju Haknyeon’s withdrawal from the team and termination of his exclusive contract.”
In a second post on Instagram, Ju Haknyeon dared Korean media outlets to release evidence and said he has never left The Boyz.
“Despite my clear stance that I have not committed any illegal acts, I will take all legal action, civilly and criminally, against some reporters and media outlets who continue to write malicious articles,” he said.
He said, “If there is evidence that I engaged in prostitution, please disclose it immediately. Also, I have never left the team, and I have never agreed to the termination of my exclusive contract.”
In a recent live broadcast, Asuka Kirara denied the allegations.
“I drank with a male friend I met for the first time in two years and his friend. There were many people there including a designer. There were also Koreans there and I didn't know Ju Haknyeon was coming. The Shukan Bunshun [Japanese tabloid] article is completely false. We never had any kind of relationship in those three days. We just met for the first time that day. I never touched Ju Haknyeon's body once or hugged him. I had no physical relationship with him whatsoever,” according to a Korean media outlet on July 3.
She wondered why Ju Haknyeon was removed from The Boyz just because they had drinks.
“I don't understand why they would kick (Ju Haknyeon) out of the team just because he drank with me. In my opinion, I think they wanted to kick Ju Haknyeon out from the beginning. If not, how could they have kicked him out so quickly? I heard that Shukan Bunshun was surprised too. It's surprising that he was kicked out before the article even came out,” she said.
