Neophyte solon FPJ Panday Bayanihan Party-list Rep. Brian Poe said that he will follow the lead of his mother, former senator Grace Poe, when it comes to the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
''I will follow the example set before me by my mother in the Senate. She voted in favor of the trial and I will vote to support that, not for anything but to support democracy and transparency in government,'' Rep. Poe said in a chance interview with House reporters Thursday, July 3.
The elder Poe was a senator-judge in the impeachment case during the tail end of the previous 19th Congress. The actual Senate impeachment trial on Vice President Duterte has yet to proceed.
Rep. Poe is one of the 97 first-termers in the House of Representatives in the current 20th Congress.
Asked during the interview about the impeachment, he said, ''I leave the impeachment complaint to the prosecution as well as those who are currently spearheading that.''
But the rookie solon also said that he wants ''the evidence to come out''.
''The whole purpose of the trial is to proceed with the democratic process no. At the end of the day it's not about picking a side. It's about opening up the government to the Filipino people para makita natin kung anong nangyayari sa likod ng lahat (so that we can see what's happening behind all of this),'' the soft-spoken Rep. Poe said.
