A third quarter scoring drought proved to be too costly to the Filipina dribblers as the Taiwanese pulled away in the second half after a relatively competitive first two quarters.
Sidney Cooks was also a thorn to the side of Gilas following a double-double performance of 17 points and 11 rebounds while spearheading the huge third frame run for the hosts who had a 24-11 quarter scoring.
Gilas was actually within striking distance at the half and was only down by just four, 35-39, before it struggled with its offense and allowed Chinese Taipei to build a 63-46 lead heading into the payoff period.
The struggle, however, continued even in the final frame as Gilas, after only scoring 11 in the third, only had 13.
Jack Animam had 18 points and nine rebounds while Naomi Panganiban and Ella Fajardo had 11 and 10 respectively.
