Fire displaces over 200 residents in Sampaloc, Manila; 1 injured
A resident was injured and 200 others were displaced in a fire that engulfed a residential area along Loreto Street, Barangay 420 in Sampaloc, Manila, early Thursday morning, July 3.
The injured was identified as Marlinita Malat Balat, 59, the property owner.
She sustained second-degree burns covering 75 percent of her body surface and was rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the fire started at 12:47 a.m. and reached third alarm before being declared fire out at 4:50 a.m.
The blaze consumed an estimated 1,000 square meters of property, affecting approximately 100 families and burning down around 80 residential structures, most of which were made of light materials.
Meanwhile, Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso personally visited the families and distributed cash assistance.
