2 vessels sustain damages in Port of Lucena collision

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Two vessels sustained damages in a collision at the Port of Lucena here on Thursday morning, July 3.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Southern Tagalog said MV Peñafrancia VI, enroute to Balanacan Port, Marinduque, and FV Senor Fernando 2, returning from Tayabas Bay, Quezon, collided head-on while exiting and entering the Lucena breakwater.
Coast Guard Sub-station Lucena directed MV Peñafrancia VI to return to Port of Talao-Talao here for further investigation and inspection of the vessels, passengers, and crew.
The PCG assisted in unloading passengers and cargoes from MV Peñafrancia VI at the port. They were transferred to MV Peñafrancia IX for medical check and cargo assessment.
MV Peñafrancia VI of Starhorse Shipping Lines had 18 crew and 82 passengers while FV Senor Fernando II of FA III Sea Fishing, had 16 crew, including the master.
They were all safe and in good condition.
MV Peñafrancia VI sustained damage to its starboard bow and ramp, while FV Senor Fernando 2 had forward bow damage and is safely moored at Lucena PFDA fishing port.
No threat to seaworthiness and no oil spill or below-waterline damage were discovered.
Crew statements have been filed and owners agreed to settle damages amicably. Both vessels will submit marine protests.
MV Peñafrancia IX departed Lucena for Balanacan with MV Peñafrancia VI’s passengers at 12:25 p.m.
