Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president, Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez has praised former First Lady Imelda Marcos for molding the leader that is her son, President Marcos.
This was among Romualdez's glowing remarks for Mrs. Marcos on the occasion of her 96th birthday on Wednesday, July 2.
According to the ex-House Speaker, Mrs. Marcos played an ''enduring role in shaping the character and leadership'' of President Marcos.
“President Marcos draws strength from the legacy of both his parents. We stand with him in honoring his mother—whose life was defined by service, vision, and unwavering dedication to the nation,” Romualdez said.
Mrs. Marcos is the widow of the late former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
For Romualdez, Mrs. Marcos embodie[s] the grace, strength, and resilience of the Filipino spirit.
“Mrs. Marcos believed in the transformative power of culture and infrastructure to build a proud and united nation. Her vision elevated the Philippines onto the global stage,'' he said.
The former House leader says that Mrs. Marcos' influence continues to guide their family’s commitment to public service.
“As a daughter of Leyte, she brought great honor to our province. Her deep love for Tacloban and the Filipino people remains alive in our hearts,” he added.
