Pasig LGU provides aid, mental and health vouchers to 100 child laborers
To mark its founding anniversary, the local government of Pasig held a Day Against Child Labor observance by providing groceries, school supplies, and mental and health check-up vouchers to 100 child laborers profiled by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The program was held on Tuesday, July 1, at the Doña Juana Covered Court along C. Raymundo Avenue in Barangay Rosario. It was attended by Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski, together with members of the 12th Sangguniang Panlungsod, including Councilors Simon Tantoco, Paul Senogat, Ryan Enriquez, Boyie Raymundo, and Warren Inocencio, among others.
During the program, the vice mayor reminded the children that hard work should not only be for earning money, but also for studying so they can have a better future. He also urged parents and guardians not to take away their children’s right to education.
Aside from groceries, the beneficiaries also received toys and other essentials from partners such as the Office of the City Vice Mayor, Pasig HOPE Medical Center, DOLE PAPAMAMARISAN, Universal Robina Corporation, The Medical City and The Medical City Employees Union, The Quorum International, Fabriano/CYA Industries, Cesta de Pan, UnionBank Employees Association, Astoria Plaza Hotel, Pasig City Hall Construction Consortium, The Tropical Hut Employees Union, National Bookstore, and Jollibee Food Corporation.
The parents and guardians also received livelihood starter kits for dishwashing as initial assistance from the Pasig City Tripartite Industrial Peace Council and other labor sector partners in the city.
The event was held under DOLE’s Project Angel Tree, in partnership with the local government, to raise awareness and fight child labor.
The beneficiaries, referred to as Batang Malaya, are part of DOLE’s Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program, which provides support such as livelihood starter packages to help children and their families in their current state of poverty.
