Manila Mayor ”Isko Moreno” Domagoso urged motorists to practice discipline on the road following an accident that occurred along San Rafael Street in Legarda on Wednesday morning, July 2.
According to initial reports, a woman was hit by a vehicle while crossing the pedestrian lane at the intersection in front of the Manila Department of Social Welfare office.
The victim was struck on her knee and was unable to get up immediately.
The motorcycle rider involved remained at the scene to assist the injured woman.
The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and Domagoso arrived shortly after the incident.
Domagoso interviewed the authorities, the motorcycle rider, and the victim to make an initial assessment of the situation.
He emphasized the cause of the accident, saying, ”Kaya nadisgrasya lumalampas kayo (motorista) sa lane. 'Yan ang dahilan kaya nadisgrasya (The accident happened because motorists were breaching the pedestrian lanes. That’s the reason for the accident).”
He also reminded motorists, ”Lahat kayo, pag dadaan ng Maynila, may pedestrian lane, hanggang dito lang kayo pag stop. May gobyerno na sa Maynila (Anyone passing through Manila, you have to stop before pedestrian lanes. There is a working government here in Manila).”
He spoke with motorists and responding authorities, urging discipline and accountability from all sides.
The victim was given immediate medical attention.
The Manila Police District was also called to respond to the incident.
Domagoso proceeded to the accident site after visiting fire victims in Sampaloc, Manila.
