Mayor Isko orders retrieval of Manila PIO Facebook page from former employees
Manila Mayor ”Isko Moreno” Domagoso
Manila Mayor ”Isko Moreno” Domagoso has ordered the Manila City government to formally write to Meta (Facebook) Philippines to request the retrieval of the official Facebook page of the Manila Public Information Office (PIO) which is currently being controlled by former city employees.
Domagoso directed that Meta be informed of the situation and be asked to transfer the page’s administration to the newly appointed City Public Information Officer, Director E-jhay Talagtag.
The mayor issued the directive during the first meeting of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), emphasizing the need for the city to regain control of the page for efficient dissemination of information during times of crisis and emergencies.
“The Facebook page is a vital communication tool for the city, especially during disasters. It should be under the control of the current administration,” Domagoso said.
The Manila PIO Facebook page has long served as an official channel for announcements, public advisories, and government updates.
City officials stressed that regaining control of the PIO's Facebook account is crucial in ensuring transparency and in improving information dissemination to the public.
