LPA east of Luzon may develop into tropical depression within 24 hours — PAGASA

A Low-Pressure Area (LPA) east of Luzon may strengthen into a tropical depression and be named “Bising” within the next 24 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, July 2.
As of 3 a.m., the LPA was located 200 kilometers east-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, or 235 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela.
“If it develops near land, tropical cyclone wind signals will be raised immediately over the eastern parts of Northern and Central Luzon,” PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin De la Cruz-Galicia said.
The LPA is moving slowly and may continue to approach land, increasing the likelihood of intensified rainfall and potential flooding in affected areas, she also said.
In addition, the southwest monsoon (habagat) continues to affect the rest of the country, bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to several areas.
PAGASA is also monitoring another tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, located about 2,660 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon.
The weather disturbance is moving away and is not expected to have any impact on the country, De la Cruz-Galicia said.
Due to the LPA, heavy rainfall warnings have been raised over some areas, particularly in Apayao, Cagayan, Isabela, and Kalinga.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are also expected in Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Ilocos Region, and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley.
The habagat may also bring similar conditions to Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the rest of Central Luzon.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated monsoon rains or thunderstorms.
From Thursday, July 3, to Friday, July 4, scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over most of Luzon and Western Visayas due to the combined effects of the LPA and habagat.
Rainfall due to the habagat is expected to continue into the weekend, from Saturday, July 5, to Sunday, July 6, affecting most of Luzon and the Visayas.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
