The dominant political party in the Philippines, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), just got bigger.
This, after its president, Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez administered on Wednesday, July 2 the oath of its newest member, South Cotabato 3rd district Rep. Dibu Tuan, during a simple ceremony at the Manila Golf and Country Club in Makati City.
This development bumped up Lakas-CMD's membership to 111 in the 317-strong House of Representatives in the current 20th Congress.
Romualdez, the House Speaker in the previous 19th Congress, expressed confidence that his party mates shared President Marcos' goals and aspirations of providing a better life for the Filipino people through the realization of his “Bagong Pilipinas''.
He noted that the President recently embarked on provincial visits to personally ensure that his programs, projects, and policies are being properly implemented and that his vision is steadily taking shape on the ground.
“Let us help him accomplish his mission and vision. As members of Congress working alongside barangay leaders and local officials, we serve as his direct link to the people,” Romualdez said.
“Let us also continue to support his legislative initiatives, his pro-poor agenda and his economic development roadmap,” the Visayas solon added.
Romualdez encouraged the party’s new members to engage actively and productively with both the party and the 20th Congress.
