End of the road: Cops arrest murder suspect after 18 years of hide-and-seek game
The crime was committed in 2007 in Manila and 18 years later, the hide-and-seek game ended in Meycauayan town of Bulacan following the arrest of a murder suspect whose seriousness of the crime made him Metro Manila’s most wanted.
Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the operation started with intelligence reports against the now 38-year old suspect after he landed in the top list of Metro Manila’s most wanted.
“He evaded justice for years and the arrest took place on July 1 in Meycauayan, Bulacan following a meticulously coordinated intelligence-driven operation. The case—pending since 2007—carries a no bail recommendation, underscoring the heinous nature of the offense,” said Aberin.
“No fugitive is beyond our reach and criminals will never evade justice. In the NCRPO, delay is the enemy, and accountability remains non-negotiable,” he added.
Since he assumed Metro Manila’s top police post, Aberin ordered his men to focus on wanted persons as most of them are repeat offenders.
Since then, the NCRPO’s wanted list is constantly changing and in February this year alone, Metro Manila policemen were able to arrest all the 10 most wanted persons in the region in just a span of one week.
EnAberin said the suspect is now in temporary detention pending the issuance of a court commitment order.
