'Avenger' arrested for stealing gun to go after sibling's killer
A construction worker in Antipolo City was arrested after breaking into the house of a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agent and stealing a gun which he needed to take revenge on the person who killed his sibling.
The Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) identified the suspect as “Bib.” He was a construction worker at a site near the victim's house in Barangay San Roque.
Authorities said the incident occurred on Sunday night, June 29, after the victim had reportedly asked a favor from the suspect to grill food for a birthday celebration. However, the gathering did not push through at the victim’s house. Instead, they decided to go to a resort.
Antipolo City Police Station Officer-in-Charge Lt. Col. Jaime Pederio said this gave the suspect the idea that no one was home, prompting him to break in using a ladder through a window on the second floor of the victim’s house.
The incident was immediately reported to the police after the family arrived home and the victim’s child noticed that the window was open and a ladder had been left outside.
They discovered that the victim’s service firearm was missing, along with a mobile phone and jewelry reportedly worth up to P55,000.
The suspect was arrested during a follow-up operation at the construction site, where the stolen items were also recovered.
In a media interview, the suspect said he just wanted to have a gun to take revenge on the person who killed his sibling back in April.
“Puntirya ko lang po talaga yung baril. Gusto ko lang makabawi sa umano sa kapatid ko. Hindi ko naman alam na ganito dadanasin ko. Binaril po kasi kapatid ko (I was only after the gun. I just wanted to get back at the one who killed my sibling. I didn’t expect things to turn out like this. My sibling was shot), the suspect said.
He is now detained at the Antipolo Custodial Facility and will be charged with robbery.
