Security guard nabbed 5 minutes after killing man in drinking session
CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – The Surigao del Norte police arrested a 36-year-old security guard five minutes after he allegedly shot and killed a man in a drinking session in Barangay Mabini, Pilar town, Surigao del Norte province.
Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director Police Col. Warren E. Dablo said the incident occurred at 5:50 p.m. on Sunday.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was having a drinking session with relatives when the suspect appeared and shot him in the neck with a .38 caliber revolver.
The victim died on the spot and the incident was reported to the police who arrived in five minutes, Dablo said.
“The responding team quickly conducted an on-site investigation, coordinated with Surigao del Norte PPO, and activated ‘Oplan: CURE’, which led to the prompt arrest of the suspect,” the Surigao del Norte PPO chief said.
“This rapid response was made possible through strategic deployment of patrol units in key barangays, enhanced coordination with community informants, and real-time monitoring of incidents, ensuring police presence in critical locations at all times,” he added.
“The swift action reflects the police’s firm commitment to public safety and rapid law enforcement,” said Police Regional Office 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer.
Recovered from the crime scene was a .38 caliber revolver (without a serial number) loaded with ammunition.
“This swift five-minute response of our PNP personnel is a testament to our dedication to public safety and swift justice. This operation reflects our unwavering resolve to ensure that crime has no place in the province. We commend the responding team for their professionalism and commitment,” Dablo said.
The suspect and his firearm are now under the custody of Pilar MPS for proper documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
