ZAMBOANGA CITY – Basilan Gov. Mujiv Hataman began his new term by signing Executive Order No. 1 establishing the province's first Freedom of Information (FOI) policy after taking his oath of office on Monday, June 30, at the new provincial building in Santa Clara, Lamitan City, Basilan.
This initiative aims to enhance transparency, public participation, and accountability in government transactions.
During his inaugural speech, Hataman underscored the need for every citizen to have access to official records and public documents in line with a provision in the 1987 Constitution.
The order mandates all provincial departments to appoint a Freedom of Information officer responsible for processing requests and maintaining a log of information.
It also encourages proactive disclosure of key public documents on the provincial website.
Hataman committed to institutionalizing transparency through measurable actions and policies, with compliance monitored by the Office of the Provincial Governor.
The executive order took effect immediately upon signing.
