Gen. Nicolas Torre III, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), warned the public against the use of artificial intelligence in various illegal money-making rackets, particularly on investment scams.
If President Marcos became a victim of the AI-generated content, Torre there is no stopping cybercriminals from producing AI videos of prominent businessmen and personalities to encourage the public to invest in business scams.
“We will be working with the DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) through our ACG (Anti-Cybercrime Group). We will be crafting various programs in relation to this,” said Torre.
The Chief PNP said government intervention is necessary as he described the use of AI in illegal activities as a serious threat.
And in the case of money-making schemes through AI, Torre said the rule is simple: If it’s too good to be true, then don’t.
“It’s really something to think about when you come across people offering something that would generate a huge amount of money even if you would not work for it. That’s the part that you should do twice, thrice and even four times,” said Torre.
He said anti-scam programs via AI technology will be the focus of DICT and ACG coordination.
