4K Party-list takes up cudgels for women's sector in 20th Congress

Who says the 20th Congress is devoid of lawmakers who will fight for women's interests?
There's one of them in 4K Party-list Rep. Iris Marie Montes, who on Monday, June 30 joined her fellow neophyte House of Representatives members in filing measures in their first day on the job.
4K Party-list stands for Kababaihan Kabalikatan para sa Kapakanan at Kaunlaran ng Bayan. Montes followed the group's advocacy to a tee based on her day one filings.
“Ang laban ng 4K Party-list ay para sa kababaihan at kanilang mga pamilya. Prayoridad ng 4K na isulong ang mga panukalang batas na magsisiguro ng pag-unlad at kapakanan ng kababaihan, said the neophyte legislator.
(4K Party-list advocates for the welfare of women and their families. 4K will prioritize legislations that will ensure the development and well-being of women.)
Filed by Montes were the proposed Kababaihan Kanegosyo at Kasosyo para sa Kaunlaran Act, Kababaihan Kaagapay sa Kaunlaran ng Kanayunan Act, Mariang Makiling Tagapangalaga ng Inang Kalikasan Act, Health Literacy Programs for Expectant Mothers, and Philippine Center for Disease Prevention and Control Act.
4K Party-list’s first round of filings also includes the proposed Universal Social Pension to Senior Citizens; State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) Mental Health Services Act; National Bullying Awareness and Prevention Month Act; Inclusive Education, Entrepreneurship and Employment for Sustainable Development Among 4Ps Adult Beneficiaries; and Women in Government Act.

House members were allowed to fill a maximum of 10 bills during the first day of filing Monday.
Other priority bills that 4K plans to pursue in the current 20th Congress include the proposed Healthy Pilipinas Act; Child Online Protection Act; Women Participation and Representation in Political Parties Act; Mandatory Immunization Program Act; and a slew of pro-women, pro family legislations endorsed by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).
Montes is a political science graduate at the University of the Philippines (UP).
