Manila 6th district Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. has thanked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for its ''courage and clarity'' after it affirmed through an En Banc ruling his victory in the 2025 mid-term elections.
The ruling of the Commission on Elections En Banc is a reaffirmation of what we have always believed: that in public service, the truth matters—and that the rule of law must prevail over misrepresentation and the temptation to win at all costs, Abante said in a statement Monday, June 30.
''I thank the Comelec for its courage and clarity. In upholding the law, it also upheld the truth,'' said the reelected solon and House quad-committee (quad-comm) co-chairman in the previous 19th Congress.
The Comelec En Banc denied the motion for reconsideration filed by Luis “Joey” Chua Uy and affirmed the earlier ruling of its Second Division declaring his candidacy void from the beginning.
In its resolution dated June 30, 2025, the En Banc reiterated that Uy falsely claimed to be a natural-born Filipino citizen and ordered that his opponent, Abante be proclaimed as the duly-elected member of the House of Representatives for the 6th district of Manila.
''This case is more than just a personal victory. It highlights the importance of protecting the integrity of our democratic institutions and ensuring that those who seek public office do so with honesty and transparency,'' Abante said.
''Our constituents—the people of Manila—deserve no less. They deserve leaders who are open about who they are, faithful to the Constitution, and respectful of the sacred trust that comes with public service,'' he noted.
He ended his statement by directly addressing his constituents.
''To the people of the 6th district of Manila, thank you for your prayers, your faith, and your patience. I return to Congress humbled by this responsibility and resolved to continue serving with the same values I have always upheld: faith in God, love for our kababayan (countrymen), and respect for the rule of law.''
Abante will be serving his third and final term as a House member in the 20th Congress.
